The Decisive Moment

Working on this project has been like a journey into my own conscious, and has come to deal with the big questions of life and death. It’s been a long process to reach the point where I understood what my work was about…
I think I for a long time have had an interest in existence, freedom and the responsibility in having a choice. I have a tendency to go around and ponder over a mix of psychology, politics and being, also before I understood it was about existentialism.
I began working on the project at a time where I decided to dig into and research my own fascination of death, my trail of self destruction and the deaths around me. I took two weeks out and stayed in my flat concentrating on everything I freely related to the topic. That was where the first of the pictures from ”the Decisive Moment” came to life, the picture where I use the cable release as a stasis like when taking drugs. Much later the whole project developed, it was a long process.
It was first long after I had finished the pictures and years after the first picture, I begun to understand my own project. Eventually, I found my way there through the writings of Kirkegaard and his thoughts on coming into existence, to become aware that you can choose your own direction. My images are somehow about this. I have used the cable release as a metaphor, for the active decision in the decisive moments in life.
